The Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, has said ‘unwarranted’ and ‘unguarded statements’ against Chief Bola Tinubu’s administration regarding insecurity and escalating food prices will carry repercussions.
News Agency Nigeria (NAN) report that, in a statement relayed by the Ministry of Defence spokesperson, Henshaw Ogubike, Matawalle advised Nigerians to refrain from employing inflammatory remarks against the government.
He said,
“Unguarded utterances coming from some sections of the populace are incisive and destructive and can exacerbate tensions and lead to violence in our beloved nation.”
According to Mr. Matawalle, Mr. Tinubu “is trying his best in handling the economic issues that Nigerians are facing.”
The President and his team are working nonstop to lessen the difficulties facing the people of Nigeria.
They are cautioning the agents of discord not to make any more uncalled-for statements since doing so will have repercussions.
Mr. Matawalle’s prudence matched his displeasure over financial struggles and rising food costs. The nation’s inflation rate increased to 29.90 percent in January 2024 from 28.92 percent in December 2023, according to the National Bureau of Statistics.
Following protests over the high cost of food last week in Niger, Kano, and Osun states, the Nigerian Labour Congress announced a two-day statewide demonstration on the subject.
