The Adamawa Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) affirms that between January and July of this year, 31 lives were lost in traffic accidents.
The command also confirmed that 274 people suffered injuries of varying degrees in traffic accidents during the reporting period.
Yelwa Dio, commander of the FRSC sector in the state, revealed this in an interview with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Yola on Saturday.
According to his words, during the period the command recorded 126 traffic accidents in which 548 people participated.
The sector commander attributed the main causes of the accidents to speeding, overloading of people and goods, improper overtaking and the use of mobile phones while driving.
For this reason, he advised drivers and other road users to always respect the traffic rules and regulations to avoid mishaps.
“Drivers need to understand that passengers have the right to reach their destination safely.
“Passengers should also be able to talk to drivers about the need to obey traffic rules and regulations at all times,” he said.
Dio said the command had embarked on educating motorists and the general public about the rules of the road through the media, in mosques and churches, as well as in car parks, to ensure the message reaches people to save lives.
He pointed out that some drivers have acquired the habit of speeding, especially due to the high cost of fuel generated by the elimination of the subsidy, to cover the time spent in the park.
Dio warned that this habit portends danger and always results in a large number of victims in case of accidents.
