President Bola Tinubu chairs the inaugural meeting of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) in the Council Room of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Vice President Kashim Shettima, Federation Government Secretary George Akume and Federation Chief of Civil Service Folasade Yemi-Esan attend the meeting which began minutes after noon.
Other attendees at the meeting include the President’s Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, the new ministers and other senior government officials.
The function of the council, as written in the Statutory Powers and Duties of Ministers Act, is to serve as an advisory body to the president, who acts as its chairman.
The FEC has a constitutional role of advising the president in determining the direction of government, although the president is the ultimate executive decision maker.
The FEC is the cabinet of the federal government and is part of the executive branch with the function of serving as an advisory body to the president, who acts as its president.
Cabinet members are appointed and report to the president.
Tinubu recently inaugurated the 45 ministers who will be members of his cabinet.
Under the previous administration, FEC meetings were held on Wednesday of each week.
