President Bola Tinubu has tasked the new cabinet ministers to start working hard to turn the fortunes of the country around.
He made this accusation on Monday while addressing cabinet members at the opening of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting in Abuja.
“We have talents; we have the level of intellectuals and the capacity to turn this country around. You and I know that the expectation is high. Therefore, we must work hard, engage and create a thriving economy that serves all Nigerians.”
The president charged the ministers to work as a team and stressed that if they focus on fulfilling their responsibilities, the country will move forward quickly.
“Each one of you is a member of this team, we can do whatever we want from our areas of responsibility, but it all depends on you. If they stay focused, we will all reach a better destination and the country will be better for it,” he stated.
Tinubu added that the country’s natural resources should be used properly to improve the lives of the country’s citizens.
“We must unlock the energy and natural resources of this country. We must start producing for ourselves, get out of the forest, focus on education and health care and make social investments that are essential for the development of our people.
“Our priority areas are defined in our economic programs. Every area is our priority, and you belong to the position of the leader to realize and make that priority a satisfactory promise for the entire nation and the African continent.
“We must achieve the economic growth that is expected of us. We must feed our people, we must take advantage of what we have and grow more to satisfy Nigerians,” she stated.
Tinubu said he would continue to listen to the wishes and aspirations of Nigerians and make corrections where necessary, while urging ministers to be bold in making decisions that move the nation forward.
“I am ready to listen. As I told the Nigerian Bar Association yesterday, I am ready even for corrections because only God is perfect. Don’t be afraid to make a decision; That is the leadership problem,” she stated.
The president also said that the challenges facing the nation such as security, unemployment and food security would be addressed to alleviate the plight of the citizens.
