The vice president, Kashim Shettima, has assured that the administration of President Bola Tinubu remains firmly committed to deepening democracy in the country.
Shettima said this on Tuesday when he received some leaders of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Tuesday.
The Vice President stressed the need for all Nigerians to work together to nurture the nation’s democracy.
“Ours is a young nation, a young democracy and there has to be a sense of belonging, a sense of inclusion on the part of all the component units of the federation.
“The beauty of democracy is that it is about inclusion, it is about give and take, and as such, the Tinubu administration is strongly committed to deepening our democratic values.”
Mr. Shettima praised the role played by IPAC in ensuring stability in politics.
“IPAC deserves a commendation, we appreciate it, IPAC keeps our democracy going, you deserve a commendation. I will honestly strive to nurture and strengthen this relationship with the full trust and endorsement of my principal.”
Mr. Shettima, who told the delegation that although the country was going through some challenges at the moment, he was optimistic that, given the policies and decisions that the new administration has taken, it was a matter of time.
According to him, the country will soon overcome the economic challenges, especially those related to the elimination of the fuel subsidy.
He said the president has a lot of respect and empathy for Nigerians, adding that in the coming months, the economy would stabilize and Nigerians would come to appreciate the Tinubu administration’s policies.
He stated that the government has a solid plan in the pipeline to address the economic challenges facing the country.
Earlier, IPAC National Chairman Yabaji Sani congratulated the Tinubu administration on its inauguration and expressed IPAC’s readiness to support the new administration to move the country forward.
He said that IPAC is in favor of national unity, inclusion and dialogue, adding that opposition parties should contribute to the progress of the country.
He affirmed his confidence in President Tinubu’s ability to transform the country.
In the IPAC delegation were NNPP Acting National Chairman Abba Kawo-Ali, Social Democratic Party (SDP) National Chairman Shehu Gabam and Sylvester Ezeokenwa, APGA National Chairman.
Others are Ralph Nwosu, ADC National President; Okechukwu Osuoha, Deputy National Legal Adviser, PDP; Zainab Ibrahim and APC Deputy General Secretary, among others.
