Ghana police have arrested three Nigerian nationals believed to be part of a criminal gang that has been robbing bank customers in Kumasi and nearby areas.
The Ashanti Regional Police Command announced the arrests in a statement on Tuesday, November 3, 2026.
The suspects are Aboy Promise, 30, Favour Uwalaka, 45, and Kingsley, 35.
According to the police, a special team from the Anti-Armed Robbery Unit and the Accra Regional Police Intelligence Directorate moved on intelligence at about 11:30 p.m. on October 31.
Promise and Uwalaka were picked up at a hotel in Moshie Zongo.
Officers searched their rooms and found GH¢1,600, several mobile phones, a Royal motorcycle and a master key that the gang allegedly used to open the cars of bank customers.
During questioning, the two men allegedly confessed and named two accomplices.
They led police to a second hotel in Dechemso, a suburb of Kumasi, where Kingsley was arrested.
The police said the fourth suspect, Chinedu, alias Alhaji, is still at large.
The police said the gang watched bank premises, picked out customers carrying large sums and followed them before attacking.
They also broke into parked cars belonging to customers and stole cash using the master key.
The suspects reportedly admitted to robbing a customer of GH¢15,000 at Asokore Mampong on October 27, after the victim withdrew money from Kwamang Rural Bank.
They also allegedly confessed to similar robberies at a Fidelity Bank branch in Atonsu, an Access Bank branch in Ahodwo and other locations in Kumasi.
The three arrested men have been handed over to the Ashanti Regional Police Command and are helping with the investigation.
The police urged the public to share any reliable information that could help find Chinedu.
Tips can be sent to the nearest police station or to the emergency numbers 191 or 112, or to the toll-free MTN and Telecel line 18555.
The command also advised bank customers to stay alert around banks and to never leave cash or valuables unattended in their cars.
