The governorship primary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State has turned into chaos, with three candidates emerging as contenders for the party’s gubernatorial ticket. This has created confusion and uncertainty, raising questions about the integrity of the primary process.

The confusion began when the Governor Hope Uzodimma governorship primary committee announced Dennis Idahosa as the winner. However, the Returning Officer for the primary, Stanley Ugboaje, declared Monday Okpebholo as the winner of the same election. Adding to the disarray, the local government returning officers announced Anamero Dekeri as the winner late on Saturday night.

Anamero Dekeri, who currently represents Etsako federal constituency in the House of Representatives, secured 25,384 votes, surpassing Dennis Idahosa, who scored 14,127 votes, according to the local government returning officers.

As a result, the APC now has three candidates vying for the gubernatorial position in Edo State, which casts doubt on the credibility of the primary process and highlights internal divisions within the party. The conflicting declarations raise concerns about the party’s ability to present a united front for the upcoming governorship election on September 21.

The party’s national secretariat has yet to issue an official statement on the crisis.
