The appeal challenging the election of Cross River State Governor, Bassey Otu, was heard by the Supreme Court on Thursday. A five-member panel, led by Justice Inyang Okoro, heard arguments from both sides and deferred its decision. However, sources within the court have hinted that a verdict is expected to be delivered on Friday, following judgments in the appeals for Kano, Plateau, and Zamfara states.
The legal battle arose from a petition filed by the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) governorship candidate, Senator Sandy Onor, who contested Otu’s victory on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC). Onor based his argument on two claims: that Otu’s presented certificate was forged and that his nomination for the March 18th election was invalid.
