The competition for the chairmanship position of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has become more intense with the entrance of a former Governor of Niger State into the race. Muazu Babangida Aliyu’s entry into the contest adds another dimension to the already competitive race for the party’s leadership. Aliyu’s political experience and influence, particularly within the party’s ranks, make him a significant heavyweight contender. His candidacy is likely to reshape the dynamics of the chairmanship contest as he is a former governor and a prominent figure in the PDP.
With Aliyu’s participation, the PDP chairmanship race is expected to become even more fiercely contested as aspirants jostle for support and endorsements from party members and stakeholders nationwide. He will compete with a former Senate president, Dr Bukola Saraki, and a former governor of Benue state, Senator Gabriel Suswam, in the election.
The PDP is scheduled to hold its National Executive Council (NEC) meeting next week after about 18 months. The NEC is the highest decision-making body of the main opposition party.
