The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) has stated its condition for any potential merger with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party, and other political parties ahead of the 2027 general elections. The national chairman, Falalu Bello, said that the PRP will only merge with a political party whose ideologies align with its own principles.
Bello emphasized that the PRP has been a political party in Nigeria since 1979 and stands for certain principles. Therefore, it will not merge with any party that does not share its beliefs. He added that the PRP is a left-leaning party and has remained consistent to its values.
Bello also stated that the PRP believes in alliances and mergers, but only with political parties that share its principles. He said that electoral alliances are nothing new to the party and that it has previously formed alliances based on principles.
The PRP chairman further stressed that the party believes in true federalism as a solution to Nigeria’s socio-economic problems. In his opinion, true federalism would help in solving the country’s issues to a large extent.
Finally, Bello called for the amendment of the Electoral Act 2022, citing that the electoral process still requires reform if democracy is to survive in Nigeria.
