The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) recently announced that it will not be joining forces with the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, in his efforts to overthrow President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. At a world press conference, Atiku called for a coalition of opposition parties to unite and take power away from Tinubu.
He singled out the NNPP presidential candidate, Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, and urged him to join his cause. However, NNPP has declined the offer and stated that it has no intention of interfering with the PDP’s presidential candidate’s case as it is not involved in any court proceedings.
During a recent press conference, the acting deputy national chairman of NNPP, Prince Nwaeze Onu, made it clear that despite the invitation from Atiku, NNPP will not be joining forces with him.
His words:
“We are not in court. We love the country. We will not engage in anything that does not concern us. We are only focused on the things that are happening at the level of our party.”
Onu advised outsiders involved in the crisis to stay away from NNPP’s internal affairs.
“Let me at this juncture thank INEC for their commitment to the growth of democracy in our country and also for their support to NNPP.”
