The Labour Party (LP) has accused the government led by President Bola Tinubu of being out of ideas in dealing with the ongoing economic crisis in Nigeria. In a statement, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, expressed deep concern over the increasing number of Nigerians falling below the poverty line.

The LP pointed out that the rising cost of living and a severe food shortage crisis have affected millions. Recent protests in Minna, Niger State, were a direct result of a substantial increase in essential commodity prices. The party highlighted a surge in crime rates, particularly among the youth, and a concerning rise in suicide cases.

The LP criticized the government for failing to take adequate measures to mitigate the impact on the Nigerian populace. The abrupt removal of fuel subsidies and the foreign exchange crisis were blamed for the current situation. The party accused the administration of increasing spending on the extravagant lifestyles of elected officials while corruption among government officials worsened.

According to the LP, the nation is in a state of despondency, which has resulted in increasing crime rates and suicide cases. The party stated that the government must take action to address this unfolding catastrophe instead of acting as if it is still campaigning for office. The party also pointed out that the economic turmoil the nation is experiencing is a result of poor judgment.
