The House of Representatives will return from its annual recess on Tuesday to continue its first legislative year of the 10th Assembly. Clerk of the House, Yahaha Danzaria, announced this in a statement released in Abuja on Saturday. The 10th Assembly went on recess on July 27th after a plenary session where Speaker Tajudeen Abbas revealed the leadership of the standing committees of the House.
Akin Rotimi, the Spokesperson of the House and House Committee on Media and Public Affairs, commented on the resumption, stating that the 10th Assembly had been productive. Since its inauguration, the House had recorded 470 bills, all passing first reading, while four passed second reading. Additionally, 175 motions were considered by the parliament. Despite the recess, various ad hoc committees continued to carry out their crucial mandates, generating significant positive public interest.
Mr. Rotimi stated that the key early developments expected on resumption were the conclusion of the work of all ad hoc committees and the submission of their reports for consideration by the House in line with the directive of the Speaker. Furthermore, the House would receive the final draft of its Legislative Agenda developed by the ad hoc committee led by the Majority Leader, Julius Inhonvbere. This draft agenda was developed following extensive consultations with critical stakeholders and would be considered and adopted by the House. Finally, the membership of the standing committees would be announced and fully constituted.
