The Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has denied striking a deal with President Bola Tinubu to receive a favorable judgment at the Supreme Court. There is a widely circulated document claiming that the “agreement” reached between the two parties included the Governor’s defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC). However, the Governor has described the document as imaginary and devoid of truth. He has stated that he did not enter into any agreement or condition with anybody before the Supreme Court judgment.
In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the Governor emphasized that he secured his mandate through the popular votes of the people of Kano and certified by a fair affirmation of Supreme Court judgment. He also added that he would not be intimidated by any political opportunist and any political decision or direction that would be taken in Kano would be determined within the confines of the rule of law and executive powers vested in the office of the Executive Governor. The establishment of the Kano Elders Council was a personal initiative of the Governor aimed at finding lasting solutions to all problems affecting the state’s socio-economic and political development.
The Governor has urged the public to dismiss the fallacy being orchestrated by enemies of progress and debunked the rumor that he has agreed to cross carpet to the ruling APC, jettison the purported claim to dissolve or allow the five emirates, discontinue the demolition of illegal structures, and establish the Kano Elders Council. He concluded that no amount of blackmail would distract him from delivering his laudable projects and programs for the good people of Kano State.
