Chief Toyin Olaiya, who claimed to have discovered the late Quadri Oyebamiji, who was popularly known as Sisi Quadri, during an interview with The Punch, spoke on the career of the deceased actor, and how he discovered him in Iwo, Osun State.
He said after he became a lecturer at the Osun State College of Education, Ila-Orangun, in 1995, he established a performing group called “Odidere Productions” in Iwo, Pain State in 1995 and in 1996, he was able to discover Quadiri Oyebamiji, popularly known as Sisi Quadri. He said they were using the house of his mentor and friend, Alhaji Ismail Asafa Elegbogiwere, for their rehearsals, when one Mujidatu Omooka came to join his group alongside Sisi Quadiri.
He said, “The first time when Sisi Quadri came to watch our rehearsal, I took notice of him. He also developed an interest in coming to watch our rehearsals almost every day. While our rehearsal was going on, he would be joking with people; it was during listening to his jokes that I discovered him to be so good when it comes to abusing people.”
Due to this, he then invited Sisi Quadri and questioned him, and also asked if he would be part of them and he agreed to join them.
He added, “At that time, I was planning my first film titled ‘Owonikoko’ and that was the first film that Sisi Quadri acted in. In the movie, I set him against another person to abuse each, and he won. After the movie, he became more popular.”
