The Deputy Governor of Ondo State, Hon. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has denied reports of endorsing a planned protest against Governor Rotimi Akeredolu. This comes after a youth group in the state, known as Ondo Youth and Masses Conscience, raised an alarm over an alleged plan by individuals loyal to the Deputy Governor to stage a protest against Governor Akeredolu’s absence. According to the youth group’s State Coordinator, Adetunji Benjamin, the plan involved mobilizing youths from Ilaje in Ilaje local government area, who were expected to present a false account of the Governor’s health status. They claimed that this was meant to portray Governor Akeredolu as incapacitated and hidden from public view by his family and associates.
However, in a statement signed by Hon. Aiyedatiwa in Akure, he disowned the alleged protesters, stating that he was not aware of any such protest and that no group or association had his endorsement to carry out any public demonstration.
He went on to affirm his commitment to the ongoing reconciliation efforts of the National leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on the political situation in the state, which is already yielding much-needed tranquillity in the state.
The Deputy Governor urged security operatives to maintain peace and ensure that the people of Ondo State go about their daily activities without disturbance.
