Vice President Kashim Shettima will leave Abuja for Johannesburg, South Africa on Monday to represent President Bola Tinubu at the 15th BRICS Summit of Heads of State and Government.
Vice President Shettima will join other business and political leaders from around the world at the Summit scheduled for the Sandton Convention Center, Johannesburg, August 22-24.
Notable leaders expected to attend the event include South African President Cyril Ramaphosa; President Xi Jinping of China; Brazilian President Luiz da Silva and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Seven and three dignitaries have also been invited, including the Secretary General of the United Nations, the Chairman of the African Union Commission and the Chairman of the New Development Bank.
The summit is expected to deliberate on issues of trade and investment facilitation, sustainable development, innovation and global governance reform.
It will also continue its outreach to leaders in Africa and the global South; as it focuses on global geopolitics, trade and infrastructure development
BRICS, short for Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, is a group of five major emerging and developing economies.
He BRICS group it represents more than 42 percent of the world population, 30 percent of the world territory, 23 percent of the world economy, and 18 percent of world trade. One of its fundamental values is the shared commitment to restructure the global political, economic and financial architecture so that it is fair, balanced and representative and rests on the pillars of multilateralism and international law.
The vice president will be accompanied on the trip by some senior government officials and is expected to return to the country at the end of the week.
