An ad hoc committee of the House of Representatives has launched an investigation into the alleged non-payment of the National Housing Funds (NHF).
The committee, chaired by Dachung Bagos (PDP, Plateau), is mandated to investigate the non-remittance and use of the Fund from 2011 to date.
Bagos, in a statement Saturday, said the committee will begin the investigative hearing on Wednesday.
He said that he has sent letters of invitation to the heads of the relevant agencies.
The guests, according to the legislator, are the Head of Service, Folashade Yemi-Esan; the General Accountant of the Federation, Oluwatoyin Madein; the Chairman of the Independent Commission for Corrupt Practices and Other Related Crimes (ICPC), Bolaji Owasanoye; and the interim president of the Economic and Financial Commission (EFCC), Abdulkarim Chukkol.
Others are the managing director of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN); the officer in charge of the real estate development loan department; the managing director of the Federal Housing Authority (FHA).

The Executive Secretary of the Federal Government Staff Housing Loan Board, the Chairman/Chairman of the Council of the Nigerian Real Estate Developers Association and the Permanent Secretaries of the Ministry of Finance, National Budget and Planning, the Ministry of Public Works and Housing have also been invited. .
About the NHF
All employed Nigerians, whether self-employed or in gainful employment, are required by the NHF Act No. 3 of 1992 to contribute 2.5 per cent of their salary/basic income to the fund.
Zakaria Nyampa (PDP, Adamawa), who filed the motion to investigate the fund in July, expressed concern about the use of the NHF.
In his motion, Nyampa said that “there appears to be a serious breach in the use and delivery of the National Housing Fund which constitutes an offense under section 20 of the NHF Act.”
