A former presidential aide and a chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, Mr Bashir Ahmad, has reacted after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu directed that over a hundred metric tons of food items should be released, in response to the high cost of food items across the country.
While reacting to the report, Mr Bashir Ahmad made it known that Nigerians are hoping that the food will be hoarded by some enemies of progress, as we have witnessed with the COVID-19 pandemic palliative.
The APC Chieftain made this disclosure in a post he made on his official X handle on Thursday evening.
He wrote:
“As President Tinubu directed the immediate release of over 100 metric tons of assorted food items as a short-term response to the rising food shortage in the country, it is our hope that the released food items will not be hoarded by the enemy of progress as we witnessed with the COVID-19 pandemic palliative.”
It should be recalled that it was recently reported that President Tinubu ordered the immediate release of more than 100 metric tons of various grain types from the National Food Reserve and Rice Millers Association of Nigeria, in response to the nation’s growing food crisis and the rising cost of commodities.
The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, disclosed this to State House correspondents after the last leg of a series of three meetings of the Special Presidential Committee on Emergency Food Intervention at the Aso Rock Villa on Thursday.
