Yahaya Bello, former Governor of Kogi State, has reportedly put up posters across Abuja indicating his interest in becoming the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC). His associates have previously hinted that he intends to challenge Abdullahi Umar Ganduje for the leadership position in the ruling party.
Bello has been vocal about the need for the APC national chairman to hail from the north-central region of Nigeria, as opposed to the current leader, Ganduje, who is from the north-west. Bello’s move has the support of several stakeholders in the north-central region, and it is seen as an attempt to bring back the chairmanship seat to the region. The former governor recently handed over power to Usman Ododo after serving eight years as Kogi State chief executive. However, there are rumors that he may be invited by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to explain his stewardship during his tenure.
