the police in anambra stateSoutheast Nigeria, they said they rescued a kidnapping victim around Borromeo roundabout in Onitsha, a community in the northern Onitsha local government area of the state.
State police spokesman Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosing it in a statement on Thursday night, said two suspected kidnappers were arrested during the rescue operation on Wednesday.
Ikenga, deputy superintendent of police, said the operation was carried out by police officers attached to Area Command Headquarters in response to a distress call around 9:30 p.m.
“The agents reached the bus in which the kidnapped victim was.

“Highly trained officers professionally engaged the kidnappers in a shootout without harming the hostage, who was rescued unharmed,” it said.
“Two suspects were arrested at the scene, while others managed to escape with gunshot wounds,” Ikenga said.
According to the police, during the operation a Beretta pistol, nine rounds of 9mm live ammunition and the unlicensed bus used by the suspects to commit the crime were recovered.
Anambra State Police Commissioner Aderemi Adeoye praised the officers for the “remarkable feat,” Ikenga said.
Adeoye also instructed the officers to intensify their efforts to track down the fleeing kidnapping gang members.
The police commissioner urged hospitals in the area to report anyone with gunshot wounds to the police.
He asked them to treat these suspects to save lives, but to inform the police while the treatment was in progress.
