The search for a Chemelil police officer ended tragically after his body was found at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Referral and Teaching Hospital morgue.
Even as detectives claimed they were investigating the whereabouts of their colleague, David Kimosop Sumukwo, it took the family a month of relentless and agonizing search before they finally found the body at the morgue.
The body of Sumukwo, an officer based at Ngeta Police post in Muhoroni sub-county, was collected at Kibos River and reports indicate he might have drowned.
Reports indicate that when the body was retrieved, it was trapped within the trees in the river and had started rotting, an indication that he might have some days earlier. He was wearing his police trousers and a belt.
His wife Beatrice Rotich revealed that they last spoke on January 19 through a phone call, and it was a short conversation. The last time his family saw him was early last September when he left for work.
Muhoroni sub-County Police Commander Joshua Nyasimi confirmed the officer’s death and said that the body was booked at the morgue as an unknown person.
Nyasimi added that the officer requested permission to go home for a week but he never returned back as expected. His phone was traced to a kiosk where he left it after borrowing some amount as bus fare.
