Kano State Police arrested six people who allegedly booed Kano Emir Aminu Ado-Bayero on Sunday.
The force also said it was on the trail of other suspects.
State Police Commissioner Muhammad Gumel made this claim on Monday while briefing reporters on the incident.
Mr. Gumel said that the suspects constituted a public nuisance during the inauguration of Hasiya Bayero Pediatric Hospital in Kofar Kudu in front of the emir’s palace in the Kano municipal local government area of the state.
The hospital was renovated and inaugurated by the governor, Abba Yusuf.
The police commissioner said the suspects disrupted the peaceful assembly by chanting derogatory remarks against the emir and calling on the governor to remove him from his throne and replace him with his predecessor, Muhammadu Sanusi.
He said the suspects were chanting slogans such as “New Governor, New Emir”, meaning the governor should remove the emir and reinstate Mr. Sanusi, who was controversially removed by former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje.
Sanusi was dethroned in 2020.
Gumel then said police used technology to identify those involved, adding that an investigation was underway to identify more suspects and their sponsors.
“That group of people were not invited to the event. They were intruders who came alone and had to be sponsored by someone or a group of people.
“Six people have been identified. We use technology to locate them. We are still analyzing the video footage and making efforts to arrest all involved.

“We are also making efforts to get sponsors.
“The traditional institution is a respectable institution, and anyone who trifles with the traditional institution is an enemy of the police,” the commissioner said.

On May 29, when Mr Yusuf took over as governor, some NNPP supporters in red caps and turbans booed and stoned the Emir of Kano and his younger brother, Emir of Bichi, Nasiru Bayero, who were in the act, with small bags and bottled water.
The event, which eventually became rowdy, saw the intervention of the former state governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, who smuggled the emirs out of the place, apparently to prevent further attacks on them.
