A 28-year-old Nigerian man, Ezekiel Eseoghene, allegedly staged his kidnapping with the intent to extort money from his family members.
Eseoghene also planned the kidnapping of other members of her family in Odovie, a community in Ughelli North Local Government Area from Nigeria’s south-south state of Delta, according to police.
State police spokesman Bright Edafe, who reported this in a statement on Sunday, said the suspect has been arrested.

Edafe, deputy superintendent of police, said a woman, Regina Ogana, and her husband were kidnapped on August 2 in the community. The woman’s husband is an older brother of the suspect.
The couple was kidnapped along with other members of their family.
The police spokesman said that while the kidnappers killed Ms Ogana, other family members were released after a ransom of N1.3 million was paid to the kidnappers.
She said police in the state were already investigating the woman’s murder when her husband contacted officers to report that the suspect, Mr. Eseoghene, made a “suspicious call” claiming he had been kidnapped and that the hijackers were demanding N500,000. as ransom, which the family promptly sent through the suspect’s bank account.

Mr. Edafe said that upon receiving the information, Delta State Police Commissioner Wale Abass ordered Oreropke Police Headquarters Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Paul Oboware to investigate the matter and ensure the arrest of all the suspects involved in the kidnapping.
“Accordingly, on August 11 at around 11:45 p.m., acting on technically generated information, officers from the Division Anti-Crime Patrol Team led by Mr. Oboware broke into the Odovie Community at Ughelli North LGA and arrested said Ezekiel Eseoghene Obeje in the same place. place where previously the sum of N1.3 million was paid as a ransom for the release of his elder brother, the husband of the deceased,” he said.
“Investigation revealed that said Eseoghene, who is a member of the Eiye Guild, faked his own kidnapping and is also suspected of masterminding the kidnapping of his brother and other family members that led to the death of Regina Ogana,” stated the police spokesman. .
Police are investigating the case, he said.
Kidnapping for ransom is the predominant crime in most Nigerian cities.
