Former governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi has announced that he will not be physically present at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium on the outskirts of Abidjan to support the Super Eagles as they take on the Ivorian Elephants in the Africa Cup of Nations final.
According to reports, Peter Obi had reportedly purchased a return ticket and was set depart to Nigeria to Abidjan on Sunday. In a recent statement which was made known to the public via the politician’s official X handle, Peter Obi however announced that he has cancelled the trip due to the devastating news of the death of Herbert Wigwe.
Nigerians have been mourning over the death of Herbert Wigwe, the CEO of Access Holdings who died in a helicopter crash that claimed the lives of the people on board including his wife and son.
The flag-bearer of the Labour Party in the 2023 elections disclosed that he has been deeply affected and saddened by Wigwe’s demise.
“In the light of this tragedy, I have had to cancel my plans to be present physically at the match venue as a mark of respect to these great souls who made immense contributions to the development of our country.”
