The Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 General Elections, Mr. Peter Gregory Obi, has accused the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of attempting to deceive Nigerians with its recent report on the conduct of the Electoral Exercise.
INEC had released a 526-page report on the 2023 elections, addressing various aspects of the electoral process, including the delay in promptly uploading presidential results. The report clarified that technical challenges led to the delay in transmitting Presidential results, despite the successful operation of the bimodal voter accreditation system (BVAS), which facilitated smooth proceedings during the elections.
However, Obi, through his spokesman, Dr. Yunusa Tanko, described the report as ‘Medicine after death.’ He stated that INEC did not deal with the issue of delay in transmitting the results during the election, which implies that Nigerians would have believed and trusted the report if INEC had addressed the issue at the time.
Obi went on to say that the report’s claims of the Independent Registration and Electoral Commission’s (IREC) failure to function or upload results during the presidential election were untrue. He pointed out that there was no issue with the results of the Federal House of Representatives and Senate elections, which were also held on the same day.
Obi accused INEC of deceit and disdain for the people, stating that the commission was trying to promote indecency.
