During an interview with Arise, Ekeanyanwu Nnabue, an agricultural expert, said that people are beginning to walk into deeper poverty and that they can’t afford to buy food as expensive as it has become. He said that he believes food is very expensive now in Nigeria, comparing the price to what it used to be.
In Mr. Nnabue’s words,
“I believe very strongly that yes, food is expensive in Nigeria now if you compare it to what it used to be, but you see that the main issue is that the people are beginning to walk into deeper poverty so that they cannot afford to buy the food as expensive as it has become, which drives us back to the same thing.”
He continued,
“The history of joblessness, that fact that we have people who are no longer working and if you’re not working, I keep saying that poverty is not the lack of money, poverty is the lack of the opportunity to make money, and if you see, the poverty is beginning to get deeper and deeper.”
