Foremost Governorship Aspirant of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State, Hon. Kolade Victor Akinjo has urged the party to aggregate its acts and move towards coming up with a Governorship candidate that the people of Ondo state will buy into and elect during the 2024 governorship election.
The former lawmaker made the appeal on Thursday during an interactive meeting with the leaders and stakeholders of the party in Owo Local Government; saying, he fits into the modest list of what is required to govern the state.
“What is key for the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, is a candidate we all can work to sell together and win this election. Aside my educational profile and antecedents, I have a very strong relationship with the foremost leaders of the party and I share their developmental ideologies”.
He further explained that his quest for the topmost job in the state is driven by altruism, patriotism and unity of the state. It is nothing personal. It is all about our state.
After burnishing his intimidating credentials that cut across the executive and the legislative arms, he emphasized that he has a fair understanding of the needs of the state, where unfortunately things are now getting worse.
” To remedy the situation, the PDP need a credible candidate like myself, who have done quite a lot for the people in terms of education, scholarships, empowerments, employments, and capacity building with my position in the National Assembly”.
He offered that the antidote to rescue Ondo State is for the “collective and collectivity of all in the PDP, who understands the gravity of what is currently going on within the party and in the state”, to come together and salvage the situation through a credible candidate in the governorship primary of the party.
The former honourable member, however, regarded himself as a unifier needed by the party – not too old and too young, cosmopolitan, with listening ears, have respect for others, and has the ability to aggregate diverse opinions without compromising democracy.
Addressing the issue of his aborted appointment by the APC into the Board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Hon. Akinjo said, “I never lobbied for the appointment. In fact, I have gotten the information about the appointment for about two(2)months before the announcement, I did not because of that decamped to the ruling party having lost my own election”.
“Truth be told, the appointment was just about the relationships I built and my agitations in the National Assembly. As a member of the opposition, my relationship with my colleagues in the ruling party did not affect my campaigning and winning my polling unit and all the circumferential polling units around me for the candidates of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). In any case, we all know how the whole appointment ended”, he said.
