The flag bearer of the All Progressives Congress in the fast-approaching Governorship election in Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has called out his Peoples Democratic Party opponent, Asue Ighodalo, and the Executive Governor of the State, Godwin Obaseki, over their allegedly sponsored campaigns to smear his reputation. The Nation recalled that a group known as Network of Civil Society Organisation in Nigeria had recently held a press conference, and also petitioned the Inspector-General of Police over claims of Okpebholo spraying the Naira notes at a public function.
In response, however, in a statement he allegedly made available by the media office of Okpebholo to newsmen in Abuja on Tuesday, 7th of May, he wondered why Governor Obaseki and Ighodalo will be so desperate that they would resort to character assassination in order to score cheap political points against him.
The All Progressives Congress governorship candidate who tagged himself as a private person said that he has neither sprayed nor mutilated the Naira note. He, therefore called on the Inspector General of Police to investigate the allegation and punish those behind it.
In continuation, he pointed out that Governor Obaseki and Ighodalo have decided to resort to cheap blackmail against him because they know that they will lose the forthcoming election.
Furthermore, the Senator said that the Edo State Governor and his ruling party’s candidate are scouting for fake news and non-existent things to blackmail him, as well as lie to the people of the State.
He proceeded to express optimism that no amount of State-sponsored intimidation will work against him.
