Senator Shehu Sani has weighed in on the ongoing 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament, drawing parallels between the football matches and the political landscape in Nigeria.
His commentary follows the presence of Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate for the Labour Party, at a quarter-final match between the Super Eagles of Nigeria and Angola. Nigeria secured their spot in the semi-finals with a 1-0 victory, courtesy of Ademola Lookman’s goal.
Shehu Sani, in a tweet on his official X handle, proposed that other prominent presidential candidates in the 2023 elections should also engage with the public in a similar manner.
He suggested that Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), and Omoyele Sowore of the African Action Congress (AAC) should attend the semi-final clash between Nigeria and South Africa.
Additionally, he highlighted that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu should be present at the final match if Nigeria progresses past South Africa.
