A video capturing the weird moment former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon (retd.), was cut off during a live program on NTA for refusing to address Nigerians in Hausa language is trending.
The situation has triggered several reactions as many Nigerians question why the national television insisted on the use of Hausa language in a country where English is the Linqua Franca.
While some posited that Gowon unreleased message must be a sensitive one, myriad of others lamented the situation.
In the video, Gowon said: “They want me to speak in Hausa but i said no…”
Reports say this happened on Wednesday, February 21st.

Yesterday, President Bola Tinubu was in a closed-door talks with Gowon at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Gowon arrived at the forecourt of the President’s office at minutes past 2pm where Tinubu personally received him.
Wednesday’s encounter is the first private meeting between the former Head of State and the President since the later assumed office nine months ago.
Gowon, Nigeria’s Head of State from August 1966 to July 1975, currently serves in the Council of State. CONTINUE READING
