The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Mining Marshals have started a fresh crackdown on illegal miners in Nasarawa State.
The Commander of the Mining Marshals, Assistant Commandant of Corps Attah John Onoja, said the joint enforcement operation involves multiple security and regulatory agencies working together to share intelligence, track down illegal mining networks, and protect national resources.
Onoja stressed that illegal mining poses a threat to national security, the environment, local communities, government revenue, and investor trust.
He noted that the operation follows the directives of NSCDC Commandant General, Ahmed Abubakar Audi.
This latest operation comes shortly after public concern over the reported deaths of 37 miners while in NSCDC custody in Niger State.
