Nigerian army troops have killed a suspected member of the outlaws Biafran Indigenous People (IPOB) and arrested two others who tried to attack the soldiers in imo statussoutheast Nigeria.
Army spokesman Onyema Nwachukwu, who revealed this in a statement on Tuesday night, it said the incident occurred at the army’s forward operating base at Ukwuorji along the Owerri – Onitsha Expressway in the state.
“The irredentist fighters attempted the attack on the troops on August 20, 2023, but found their waterloo, when they came under the superior firepower of the vigilant troops. Troops neutralized one of the fighters, while two others were arrested, while others fled,” said Nwachukwu, Brigadier General.
A vehicle, a mobile phone, a machete, nine empty boxes of spent 7.62mm special ammunition and one empty box of spent 12.7mm ammunition were recovered from the separatists, according to the army.
Boko Haram insurgents surrender in Borno
Nwachukwu said that in another development, a Boko Haram fighter along with his wife surrendered to Task Force 26 Brigade garrison troops in Gwoza, a local government area in Borno Statenortheast Nigeria.
The spokesman said the terrorists surrendered in response to “aggressive combat operations by troops” against them in the northeast.

An AK-47 rifle and 10 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition were among the items recovered from the terrorists, the army said.
Murder of insurgents in Zamfara
Nwachukwu said that in a separate operation on Monday, Nigerian troops ambushed some insurgents who were on a mission to attack Bobo village in the Talata Mafara local government area. Zamfara Statenorthwestern Nigeria.
He said troops from a brigade garrison operating under the 8th Division’s area of responsibility carried out the operation in response to a tip.
“In a fierce combat with the insurgents, the troops eliminated two of the criminals and recovered two AK-47 rifles and four motorcycles,” said the Army spokesperson.
The army has asked Nigerians to support its operations to improve security across the country, he said.
