The 82nd Division nigerian army it has warned troops deployed at checkpoints against bribery and other unprofessional conduct capable of presenting a poor image of the service.
The warning was broadcast during a conference on the responsibility of troops deployed at various checkpoints in the Division’s area of responsibility.
According to a statement on Friday by Acting Deputy Director of Division Army Public Relations Jonah Unuakhalu, the awareness conference was held at the Abakpa military cantonment, Enugu.
“The army has been involved in controlling checkpoints throughout the country due to insecurity that has threatened the country’s sovereignty.
“Despite the numerous advantages of military checkpoints, there have been a number of complaints from the civilian population about the unprofessional conduct of troops at military checkpoints, which defeats the purpose of establishing the checkpoint. said Mr Unuakhalu, Lieutenant Colonel.
He went on to say: “Roadblocks and checkpoints are mainly security measures put in place by the authorities to monitor and control the movement of vehicles and people in a particular area.

“Therefore, the general public is advised to desist from giving gratuities to soldiers at checkpoints and report cases of troop misconduct to the proper authorities.
“The Division will continue to play its constitutional and assigned role in line with global best practices,” he said.
