The Defense Minister, Muhammed Badarusays Nigeria will strengthen its bilateral relationship with the United Kingdom (UK) to combat insecurity.
Badaru said this when a UK delegation led by the Minister for the Armed Forces and Veterans Affairs, James Heappey, paid him a courtesy visit at his office.
This is indicated by a statement made on Thursday in Abuja by Victoria Agba-Attah, director of Press and Public Relations for the ministry.
Badaru said that Britain had supported the task of ensuring the safety of Nigerian waterways, adding that safety was a dynamic issue that had its own challenges.
He added that the Nigerian and British militaries have to work together to combat the Boko Haram threat and stressed that the West needed to provide more support to Nigeria, just as it did to other nations.
Also, in his statements, the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, stated that Nigeria and the United Kingdom have had good bilateral relations.

Matawalle reaffirmed the federal government’s commitment to put an end to the insurgency and banditry in the country.
He added that both countries need to work closely in areas of capacity building, training of military personnel, technology transfer and supply of modern equipment to fight Boko Haram.
Earlier in his opening remarks, Ibrahim Kana, the ministry’s permanent secretary, said Britain tops Nigeria’s list of international friends, adding that Nigeria values the relationship between the two countries.
Heappey, earlier in his remarks, said the purpose of his visit was to adjust and expand his support to the Nigerian Armed Forces based on changing needs and perceptions of threats.
