A respected Nigerian and a prominent filmmaker, Kunle Afolayan, has spoken concerning his efforts to bring up his kids under his culture.

Discussing the issue during an interview on Channels TV, Afolayan recalled his debate with a friend’s daughter who claims to be more British than Nigerian.

“Addressing the topic, Afolayan said, “I was talking to my friend, Deola’s daughter, on the need to speak Yoruba since she is a Nigerian.
However, the girl said she is not just a Nigerian but a British. I told her I know she is British but also a Nigerian, but she argued she is more British than Nigerian.
I told her mother that these are the things that we need to change. She should not be thinking like that.”
He added,
“I old my children that I have tried in case they try to turn out the way they want tomorrow. The entire world knows that I have tried. My children chat with me in Yoruba and when they wake up wherever they are, they greet me in Yoruba language in the morning. It is the parent’s job.”
