Kingsley Moghalu, a former Central Bank deputy governor, has rejected being named as part of Atiku Abubakar’s policy team for the 2027 election.
He said no one asked him first and he never agreed to join.
Moghalu made the clarification Thursday after the African Democratic Congress candidate announced his campaign structure and listed Moghalu among the policy team members.
The policy team is headed by economist Mohammed Hayatudeen with Professor Mohammed Sagagi as deputy.
According to Moghalu, he left partisan politics in Nigeria in 2022 and has stayed out since then.
He doesn’t belong to any political party and won’t be advising Atiku or anyone else’s campaign.
His work now focuses on non-partisan activities.
He runs the Institute for Governance and Economic Transformation, a public policy think tank, and heads Sogato Strategies, which advises on geopolitical and regulatory matters.
Being uninvolved in party politics doesn’t mean he doesn’t care about Nigeria, Moghalu stressed.
He said his focus is on serving the country through statesmanship rather than political alignment.
Atiku’s campaign council announcement included Kashim Ibrahim-Imam as chairman, former Kaduna governor Nasir El-Rufai as deputy, and Senator Austin Akobundu as director-general.
The policy team will work on proposals tackling the cost of living crisis, joblessness, insecurity and falling purchasing power.
