Nigerian Energy Minister Adebayo Adelabu has ensured that the Federal Government will empower Nigerians through stable and affordable electricity.
The minister, who gave the security when he took office on Monday in Abuja, stressed that all households, industries, schools and businesses will benefit from the government’s efforts.
To accomplish the feat, Adelabu said the ministry would take advantage of the Nigerian Electricity Act 2023 to boost power supply in the country.
News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Nigerian Electricity Act 2023 provides a comprehensive legal and institutional framework for the operation of a fully privatized tariff, reflecting costs and service.
The law also provides for a rules-based competitive electricity market in Nigeria.
According to Mr. Adelabu, the ministry will diligently provide optimal solutions for Nigeria’s energy needs throughout the country. He said the task was not simply a requirement but an expectation of both the president and the Nigerian population who had endured years of defiance to power.
“This responsibility weighs heavily on us, and it is with conviction, divine guidance and the support of President Tinubu, the National Assembly, government agencies and Nigerians that I pledge my commitment to success in the energy sector.
“The key to success will be an unwavering dedication to efficiency and collaboration,” he said.
Mr. Adelabu said the ministry would foster strong partnerships between the public and private sectors, working collectively to improve the economic and social well-being of the nation.
“Our focus will extend to aspects of life that really matter: from homes to small businesses, educational institutions to mass industrial productions and beyond.
“One important goal is universal household metering and addressing the challenges facing our national power grid.
“We will equally pay critical attention to renewable and alternative energy options. In fact, the world is going in that direction and Nigeria must not be left behind,” he said.

The minister said that the ministry would also harness the power of technology and the overflowing energies of talented youth to achieve desired goals. He said this would be achieved by ensuring sound exploitation of the ministry’s ICT apparatus and the emerging technological ideas of young Nigerians to accelerate the envisioned transformation.
“Through this, we are convinced that we will provide services that will match the speed and values that the 21st century economy demands.
The minister expressed his gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for giving him the rare opportunity to serve as a proxy minister in his administration.
“Recognizing that there are numerous Nigerians who deserve and are qualified for this role, I am truly honored that the President has entrusted me with this vital task as we collectively envision the growth and prosperity of our nation,” he said.
