Getafe solidified their position in the top half of LaLiga with a commanding 2-0 triumph over struggling Granada.
Victory further dimmed Granada’s already dismal record, managing just one win in 20 matches since August, with five draws and 14 losses.
Following consecutive league defeats, Getafe sought redemption against their lower-ranked opponents and displayed early dominance.
Borja Mayoral’s close-range header tested Granada’s Augusto Batalla, but it was Mason Greenwood’s deflected shot that broke the deadlock, granting Getafe a well-deserved lead.
Building on their momentum, the Azulones extended their advantage in the 36th minute.
Batalla’s slip allowed Mayoral to capitalize and comfortably slot the ball into an empty net.
Although Getafe couldn’t add more goals, they left Granada facing an uphill battle into the second half.
Granada, struggling to find footing in the first half, entered the second with renewed determination.
Despite a missed penalty opportunity by Myrto Uzuni, who hit the post after VAR penalized Jordi Martín for a handball, Granada persisted.
However, Getafe’s goalkeeper, David Soria, thwarted substitute Óscar Melendo’s attempt, ensuring the two-goal lead remained intact.
As the match concluded, Getafe maintained control, securing a hard-earned three points.
Their dominance extended an impressive five-match unbeaten streak in head-to-head encounters (two wins, three draws). In contrast, Granada remains six points adrift of safety, desperately needing an improved performance against Las Palmas on Saturday to salvage their LaLiga standing.
