In an interview with Arise TV, George said Lagos, despite being the state with the largest population in Nigeria, has only 20 local government areas (LGAs). He said Ogun State with a much smaller population also has 20 LGAs. He said even more striking is Kano State, which does not have as much population as Lagos but boasts 44LGAs. He said Jigawa, a state carved out of the old Kano State, has 27 LGAs.
In Bode George’s words: “Take my state Lagos, with the largest population in this country, we have only 20 LGA, Ogun that is next door, their population is not even up to one-quarter of Lagos, also has 20 local government but Kano that does not have our population have 44 local government. Jigawa which was created out of Kano has about 27 and every local government collects money from the Federation Account”
