The Presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has denied allegations of having pre-arranged agreements with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu regarding the results of the Supreme Court’s decision on the Kano State governorship election. In an interview with BBC Hausa, Kwankwaso dismissed the claims and shared his perspective on the recent legal developments.
On Friday, the Supreme Court confirmed Abba Kabir Yusuf, the NNPP candidate, as the duly elected governor of Kano State, thereby bringing an end to the series of legal battles. Kwankwaso used the opportunity to reflect on the political landscape and the lessons learned from the Supreme Court’s decision.
While Kwankwaso acknowledged his relationship with Tinubu, he recounted their shared political journey from their days in the Social Democratic Party (SDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) founding. Despite any perceived differences, he and Tinubu had actively participated in political struggles together.
Kwankwaso dispelled rumours of pre-existing agreements, stating that he had not reached any agreement with anybody to his knowledge. However, he emphasized the need for collaboration between political parties where necessary, stating that they have their party and they will work together where necessary. On the issue of joining the government, only time can tell.
Regarding the newly affirmed governor, Kabir Yusuf, Kwankwaso asserted that his role would be advisory rather than authoritative. He stated that Kabir Yusuf is the governor and that they can only advise. He also clarified that he cannot rule over Kabir Yusuf even if he were his biological son.
