The gubernatorial candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State, Abdulazeez Adediran, popularly called Jandor, has filed an appeal against the judgment of the Lagos State Electoral Tribunal that upheld the re-election of the governor. Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

He appealed to the Lagos Division of the Court of Appeal.

Adediran filed the suit along with his party, the PDP.

A copy of the appeal was made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday.

Adediran said his appeal with 34 grounds of appeal filed on October 13 (today Friday) was an expression of his dissatisfaction with the court’s verdict.

This comes about 18 days after the court delivered judgment confirming Mr Sanwo-Olu’s election on September 25.

He claimed that the sentence was characterized by a miscarriage of justice and begged the Court of Appeal to overturn it.

He said the court erred in law and came to a wrong conclusion when it dismissed his petition challenging Mr Sanwo-Olu’s qualification for the March 18 gubernatorial election.

He said his petition was based on the provisions of Articles 177(c) and 182(1)(j) of the Nigerian Constitution.

“With this action, I reaffirm my commitment to bring a breath of fresh air to governance in Lagos State, ensuring that the provisions of the Constitution and electoral laws are respected with regard to the election of a truly qualified governor.” , said.

On September 25, the Lagos Governor’s Electoral Tribunal dismissed Mr. Adediran’s petition, as well as that of Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour of the Labor Party, challenging Mr. Sanwolu’s election.

The court confirmed the return of Mr. Sanwo-Olu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the duly elected governor of the state.

The court held that Mr. Adediran’s petition “is dead on arrival and deserves a proper burial.”

In deciding whether Mr. Sanwo-Olu and his deputy Obafemi Hamzat were validly nominated by their party, the APC, to contest the elections, the court cited relevant provisions of the constitution and the Electoral Act and a plethora of decided cases to the effect. that this was a pre-electoral issue that was unrelated to the holding of the elections that were in question.

The judge noted that they are members of political parties and have education up to the school certificate level.

“I affirmed the election of Sanwo-Olu Babajide Olushola as the duly elected governor of Lagos State, Nigeria,” said Mikhail Abdullahi, a member of the three-member panel presiding over the tribunal.
