Several radio stations in Ibadan, which is the capital of Oyo State, have prohibited the airing of songs by Afeez Fashola, who is also known as Naira Marley, on all their platforms.
The Daily Post reported that this ban was imposed due to the ongoing investigation into the death of Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, a popular artist from Lagos who was also known as Mohbad. He passed away at the young age of 27, and the news of his death was announced last Tuesday.
Two radio stations, Agidigbo FM and Splash FM, have announced their decision to enforce a ban on Naira Marley’s music. Splash FM sent an internal memo to its staff on Monday, highlighting the sensitivity of Mohbad’s death and the ongoing police investigation.
As a result, the ban on Naira Marley’s songs will be implemented with immediate effect and will remain in place until further notice.
Dr. Oriyomi Hamzat, the founder of Agidigbo FM, has confirmed that they will no longer play any songs from Marlian Records on their radio station.
This decision was made after the unfortunate death of Mohbad, although they did not directly blame Marlian music for it. Dr. Hamzat clarified that it is simply a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of their listeners.
