An Ekiti monarch who recently survived an attack by bandits, Alara of Ara-Ekiti, Oba Adebayo Fatoba, has opened up on his bitter experience that day.
It should be recalled that last week, bandits had launched an attack against the Oba and other traditional rulers in Ekiti State. During the attack, two traditional rulers – Onimojo of Imojo-Ekiti, Oba Olatunde Samuel Olusola and Elesun of Esun, Oba David Babatunde Ogunsona – were killed. Oba Fatoba was in the vehicle with the other traditional rulers, but he was lucky to escape.
According to Sahara Reporters, Fatoba said that someone was killed, and his deputy had called to tell him what was going on, and since it was a Sunday, he told him that he would come the following day.
He said that the following day, they went there to make their findings, and on their way back, they were attacked by the armed bandits.
He said that he was operating his phone when he saw that the driver had marched the brakes abruptly, and when he looked up, he saw the bandits pointing guns at them.
He said that there were many of the bandits, but they were attacked by three of them.
Speaking further, he said that he noticed that the bandits did not understand English, and that they were carrying AK-47, pump action guns, and locally-made guns too.
He said,
“If they were kidnappers, they would ask us to get down, raise our hands and so on. I wish I could show you my body, you would have seen the cuts.
Speaking during an appearance on Awikonko TV Live, he added, “I noticed that they didn’t understand English. They were with a big machete and they had other ones too. I saw AK-47, a pump action gun and a locally made one.”
