Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has denied a claim on social media that he met President Bola Tinubu at the Alake of Egbaland 80th birthday reception. Oba Adedotun GbadeboThursday.
A video clip on a TikTok account, “@asiwajuwoldwidef,” claimed that the two leaders met on Thursday.
But in a statement by his spokesperson, Kehinde Akinyemi, on Saturday, Obasanjo condemned the post as false.
He said the video is not recent as it was recorded when Obasanjo hosted Tinubu last year ahead of the 2023 general elections.
Akinyemi said the former president, who is now in South Africa for the burial of Zulu leader Mangosuthu Buthelezi, advised the architect of the fake post to target another location for hatchet work.
“I have not seen Bola Tinubu since he visited me at my house in Abeokuta when I was campaigning. Secondly, I was at the church and NOT at Alake’s 80th birthday reception,” the statement quoted the former president as saying.
“To put the content of the video in proper perspective, it so happened that during Tinubu’s visit to the house last year, he came across the former president playing his favorite traditional game (ayo) and started joking, jokingly telling the former president who was surprised to see him playing Ayo’s game at that time of day.
“Spontaneously, as he rose from his chair to welcome him and other visitors who accompanied him, Obasanjo responded by saying: when he does not have work. If you are ready to give me work, I am ready to work for you.
“Shortly after, Tinubu was heard praying for the longevity of Obasanjo’s life, as the two walked towards the living room with others.
“I’m not looking for a job and I’m not working with anyone like the fake news says. Those looking for people to work with Bola Tinubu should look outside Obasanjo,” she declared.
