Retired General Charles Airhiavbere, an aspirant under the All Progressives Congress (APC), in a news published by The Nation News, has voiced confidence in his ability to challenge the status quo ahead of the Edo State gubernatorial election on September 21.
Speaking at the APC national secretariat in Abuja after submitting his nomination forms, Airhiavbere outlined his determination to dismantle the existing structures of both the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the emerging Labour Party (LP) within the state.
Asserting the necessity for a formidable contender against incumbent Governor Godwin Obaseki, who defected to the PDP, Airhiavbere expressed his readiness to reclaim the mandate for the APC. He emphasized the importance of selecting a candidate capable of confronting political adversaries and securing victory for the party.
Highlighting his slogan “it’s my turn,” Airhiavbere stressed his readiness to lead the charge. He assured journalists of his capacity to not only challenge but also dismantle the opposition’s foothold in Edo State, including within the PDP and the LP.
Airhiavbere underscored the significance of strategic campaigning, especially in Edo Central Senatorial district, where he believes the APC needs to bolster its presence to secure victory.
He emphasized the imperative for the APC to field its strongest candidate, emphasizing his belief that he embodies the party’s best chance for success in the forthcoming election.
As the race intensifies, Airhiavbere’s confidence and strategic approach signal a spirited contest for the Edo State governorship, promising a dynamic political landscape in the months leading up to the election.
He said:
“The governor took our mandate to PDP, so we are ready to take it from him. The man with the capacity must face him to make sure we return this mandate to the APC. That’s why I’m in the race.
“I can assure you that I have the capacity and I can collapse structures in PDP and even in the Labour Party to add to what we already have in APC.
