The police in Plateau State have confirmed the tragic death of Sylvanus Namang, the spokesperson of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, in a kidnapping incident that took place in Pankshin.
According to Premium Times, Alfred Alabo, the police spokesperson, revealed that Mr. Namang was not the intended target of the kidnappers. The incident occurred late on Saturday at a relaxation spot, where gunmen, about seven, believed to be kidnappers, shot and killed Mr. Namang while attempting to abduct the owner of the club.
As soon as the police received the information, Commissioner of Police Hassan Yabanet directed the Area Commander and the Divisional Police Officer in Pankshin to apprehend the suspects and rescue the victim.
A gun battle ensued, resulting in the foiling of the kidnapping attempt. However, the suspects managed to escape with gunshot wounds, while the victim, who was injured during the incident, was successfully rescued and taken to the General Hospital in Pankshin for medical treatment.
Despite the efforts made, Sylvanus Namang, who was just a customer at the club, sadly succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Mr. Alabo conveyed the commissioner’s condolences to the deceased’s family and reassured residents of the police’s unwavering commitment to ensuring the safety and security of lives and property.
