Hijab-clad terrorists kidnapped a popular local businessman, Alhaji Isiya, in the Maru area of Zamfara state on Monday.
Hijab is the veil worn by Muslim women. It is not allowed for men to wear it religiously.
PRNigeria reported that the terrorists, who were on three motorcycles, reached Hayi, a community in the Maru area of Zamfara state, around 10:00 p.m. on Monday and kidnapped the businessman.
Mr. Isiya is a gold dealer.
“After invading Haji Isiya’s residence, he was abducted before security personnel could intervene.
“The armed bandits, who were wearing hijabs, immediately left with Isiya and reportedly saw them in the Karakkai shaft. God only knows where they finally took him.
“But security agencies have already launched an investigation into the incident. They will surely facilitate their rescue,” the source, who was not named, told PRNigeria.
The police spokesman in Zamfara StateYazid Abubakar did not reply to SMS messages sent to comment on the attack.
Mr. Isiya’s kidnapping came just hours after Army Chief of Staff Taoored Lagbaja promised that the military would soon launch an offensive against the terrorists.
There have been new terrorist attacks in Zamfara in recent months. The army chief’s visit came a few hours after terrorists invaded the town of Bungudu, 20 kilometers from the state capital, and kidnapped seven people, including a retired senior official, the first son of the Bungudu emir and five women.
Two weeks ago, a police division station was attacked in the same town. The assailants killed a policeman, Nura Ibrahim, during the attack.
Other areas that witnessed terror attacks in recent days include the city of Talata Mafara, where 11 construction company workers were kidnapped, and the murder of seven soldiers in the emirate of Dansadau.
