Manchester United’s head coach, Erik ten Hag, has announced the 21-player roster for the upcoming UEFA Champions League match against Bayern Munich in Germany. However, it’s important to note that two notable players, Mason Mount and Raphael Varane, will not be part of the squad.
Despite returning to team training at Carrington after their injuries, Mount and Varane were not included in the Munich expedition due to concerns about their match fitness. Varane had been out of action for three and a half weeks due to an undisclosed injury, while Mount was recovering from a muscular ailment that had caused him to miss the previous three matches.
Regrettably, Manchester United’s injury list has grown longer as Sofyan Amrabat and Kobbie Mainoo continue to train separately and cannot participate. Luke Shaw, Tyrell Malacia, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, and the recently injured Harry Maguire are also sidelined.
Moreover, there are several other players absent for different reasons. Jadon Sancho has been excluded from the squad due to disciplinary issues, while Antony has taken personal leave amidst allegations of domestic abuse. Additionally, Donny van de Beek has been left out of the Champions League roster.
There’s an interesting update on Manchester United’s upcoming match as Rasmus Hojlund is expected to start for the second time in a row. During his debut against Brighton, he was substituted after 64 minutes, which some fans disagreed with. However, the team’s coach, Ten Hag, explained that he was concerned about Hojlund’s physical condition due to a previous stress fracture in his back during pre-season training with Atalanta. Since his £72 million transfer to United, he has been receiving ongoing treatment at Carrington.
