Arsenal left it late to go five points clear at the top of the Premier League table following a 4-3 victory against Luton Town last night.
Declan Rice’s 97th-minute header handed the Gunners all three points, but the visitors could have ended up with just a point or none had the players not come to the rescue of goalkeeper David Raya.
The Spaniard fluffed his lines for the last two Luton goals, and the errors almost proved costly.
Former Arsenal and Luton midfielder midfielder Henri Lansbury slammed the Brentford loanee on Sky Sports’ Soccer Special, insisting manager Mikel Arteta would have been far from pleased with his performance.
“Arteta will be disappointed with the goalkeeper, two goals shouldn’t have gone in,” the pundit said.
“Arsenal are top of the league, they look good here.
“Two mistakes from Raya have given Luton half a chance here. Will Arteta change it now?
“He put a lot of pressure on Ramsdale when he made a couple of mistakes…”
Elijah Adebayo rose higher than Raya after the Arsenal keeper flew off his line in an attempt to catch the ball from a corner, but the Luton man nodded into an empty net to draw the hosts level for the second time.
He also opted to try and save Ross Barkley’s shot with his hands when he could have gone with his legs, and it proved to be the wrong technique as the ball squeezed under his body, putting the hosts temporarily ahead before Kai Havertz drew Arsenal level.
Raya is losing confidence and his performances have been greatly affected as a result.
Whether Arteta will be forced to reinstate Aaron Ramsdale remains to be seen, but the England international did not cover himself in glory when he had the chance to impress against Brentford.
